MG Motor India has announced a price hike for its Windsor EV, increasing the cost by Rs 50,000 across all variants. The revised prices now range from Rs 19.98 lakh to Rs 24.98 lakh (ex-showroom). This adjustment comes as the company faces rising input costs and supply chain challenges.
In addition to the price hike, MG has also increased the cost of its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription by 40 paisa per kilometer. The BaaS model allows customers to purchase the vehicle without the battery, reducing the upfront cost, and pay for battery usage on a per-kilometer basis. The new rate will now be Rs 2.40 per kilometer, up from the previous Rs 2.00.
The Windsor EV, a popular electric sedan in India, offers a range of up to 450 kilometers on a single charge and is known for its premium features and competitive pricing. Despite the price increase, MG Motor India remains confident in the vehicle's value proposition, citing its advanced technology, spacious interiors, and eco-friendly credentials.
The company has assured customers that existing bookings will not be affected by the price hike, and deliveries will continue as scheduled. MG Motor India also emphasized its commitment to expanding the EV ecosystem in the country, including investments in charging infrastructure and customer support.
This move aligns with the broader trend of automakers adjusting prices in response to rising costs and market dynamics. As the demand for electric vehicles grows in India, manufacturers are balancing affordability with sustainability, ensuring that EVs remain a viable option for consumers.
